Dry Grasslands

Dry Grasslands

Trockenrasen

Dry grasslands are both cultural landscapes and living nature. Thousands of years ago, people cleared these dry, nutrient-poor, sun-exposed steppe slopes. This created pasture for sheep, goats and cattle — and, quite incidentally, one of the most species-rich habitats in Europe. Continuing this traditional grazing system benefits all the creatures that live here.
